Bob Palisin for Congress Synopsis of Views 1/28/2010 First Amendment and Religion. The Constitution makes clear that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” James Madison argued that “toleration” should be changed to “free exercise” of religion in the 1776 Virginia Declaration of Rights. I am a Christian, but I believe all persons have the right to worship [or not worship] as they feel they are led. I believe “The Separation of Church and State” has been misinterpreted and used to restrict the growth of religion and moral values in America. I believe there is a faulty, frumpy, and fugacious concept called “Separation of Church and State” which is non-constitutional. Second Amendment and Guns. I am a member of the NRA. I adhere to our constitutional guarantee to own firearms. I firmly believe that ownership rights should not be tampered with. I am in the process of receiving a rating from the NRA I hope it will be an “A”. Illegal Immigration. I am in favor of tight guarded borders allowing for legal immigration. My maternal great-great-grandparents came from Germany, France, Scotland, and England in the early 1800's. My paternal grandparents came from Slovakia and Bohemia around 1900. I oppose amnesty for illegals. I would be open to the possibility of illegals pleading guilty to false entry and then paying a fine with accompanying years of public service and delayed probationary citizenship with calculated reduced benefits in the future. I oppose quick legalization and instant voting rights for people who enter our country by force. Abortion. I am opposed to abortion as a means of birth control. It should never be chosen as a remedy for careless planning. I do believe that there are a relatively few situations wherein a couple, a mother, or a family may prayerfully elect to end a pregnancy. I regard myself as a Pro-Life person. When I served on our Church’s General Assembly Committee “Justice and the Rights of People”, I worked to emphasize the inclusion of language that emphasized the inclusion of Pro-life ideas with limited exceptions as ectopic pregnancies, incest and rape. Like the percentage of that famous floating white soap, I am 99 44/100 % pro-life. Water. I am in favor of water conservation and freeing up water for agriculture use. Water is one of our most precious resources. With more people, we have to make our water go further. I applaud Clivus Multrum for encouraging water less sanitary systems. Is it a sign of the future? Energy. I want the USA to become self-sufficient in energy. I would favor natural gas powered cars now, if they were ready. I would favor State and Municipal fleet vehicles being used to research realistic alternative sources of energy. Ford is scheduled to release a natural gas vehicle next year. [Honda has one now]. I was planning to be an atomic physicist before I decided on the ministry. I am not afraid of nuclear power. I used to live five miles from a nuclear power plant in Florida. It can also be used to produce hydrogen, which in turn can be used as a non-polluting energy source. We need to stop exporting our dollars to buy oil that is buried and available either offshore, or in Alaska. We can try to establish sun power jobs here in our 8th district. Taxes. I say, “No new taxes for new projects.” I realize that half of the dollars in circulation in the world are in foreign hands. The only way we can get them back or prevent them from being used to “buy up America” is for us to buy them back. I am in favor of slowly reducing income taxes, and would be in favor of a national sales tax to pay off the national debt, not to pay for new plans and entitlements. I favor lowering taxes on businesses to keep jobs in America. Health Care. The current plan in the Senate and House proposal is not an insurance plan. Insurance plans are built on actuarial tables. This is a last ditch attempt to force socialized medicine onto the backs of Americans. I call it a PONZI-BAMA scheme. If it is passed, it will bankrupt our country and further inflate our dollar unless we are able to gather enough votes to repeal the legislation before great damage is done. God bless America. |
